Good sleep is essential not only for general good health and mood but it can also help with weight loss. Research has tied obesity to many factors, but a lack of sleep can sometimes disturb appetite regulation, while regular sleep hygiene has been linked with increased weight loss in those who are dieting or otherwise trying to live a healthy lifestyle. Sleep helps to regulate moods, as well, and overeating is sometimes tied to “boredom” or “bad mood” eating, during which people are especially likely to select foods that are bad for them. Sometimes, these foods can then sometimes cause indigestion, which means it is harder to get to sleep, and the cycle continues, and health deteriorates.
If you are dieting or just trying to live a healthy lifestyle, you probably think a lot about what you eat, but do you think enough about sleep hygiene and the type of bed that you sleep in? A good bed can mean good sleep, and good sleep can mean a better mood, better health, and stabilizing weight. For optimum help with your new regime, think about food and exercise, as these things are of course crucial to fitness and good health, but also think about the way that you sleep and the bed that you sleep in. First of all, make sure you are getting enough sleep—not just quantity of sleep, but quality. Many people sleep enough hours but do not get enough deep sleep; this is something that can be inhibited by alcohol, overeating, stress, and worry. Make sure you get good quality sleep as well; this can often be achieved by, for example, not doing work in bed, so that your bed remains a place only for sleep.
If you are thinking about weight loss, don’t underestimate sleep. The more you sleep, the calmer you will feel, and this will reduce the chance of overeating out of stress or from your body “thinking” it is hungry when it infect just needs a glass of water and a good night’s rest. Another way to get more sleep is to make your sleeping area, including your bed, as comfortable as possible. Your bed should be comfortable and attractive. Select sheets that you find not only aesthetically pleasing but also comfortable to sleep on; that might mean cotton, silk, pretty colors—whatever aesthetically pleasing and comfortable mean to you (and/or your partner). Also ensure that you select mattress that fits your body size/type and takes into account any muscle or other health issues you may have. Sometimes this has to do with age or simply personal preference, but different people prefer different beds, and there is aide variety to choose from. Take a look at all the beds that are available, and try several before committing.
When trying to lose weight, think of all the normal, important factors—diet, exercise, etc, but don’t neglect the benefits of the right type of beds and, of course, the way that you will use it.
